I had hoped for lillipads, but since there were none, I chose to paint this luscious and vibrant scene of late Spring. Just as I’d set up to paint, I was approached by a worker on the grounds. I was expecting to have to apologise profusely, and be on my way, but he assured me that I was alright. He told me that the lilies should be up in a couple of weeks, and I wouldn’t be in anyone’ s way until the fishing season began in a month’s time. He’d come out to feed the fish, something past it’s best from his fridge – a nice old boy I thought. Painted late May 2024, in three hours.
